The Rotor Engineering Department within Vestas Power Solutions develops wind turbine blades and technologies with the mindset : Accountability from cradle to grave.

The department seeks a highly qualified engineer in Porto, Portugal with composite structural engineering and analysis expertise, but also with deep knowledge of composite materials and their application and processing to drive technological developments within these areas to deliver the most competitive blade products in the market.

Department

The Blade Structural Engineering department develops blades with the mindset : Accountability from cradle to grave. The department seeks a highly qualified engineer with composite structural engineering and analysis expertise, but also with deep knowledge of composite materials and their application and processing.

Our department consists of +20 highly skilled and motivated engineers mainly located in UK / Isle of Wight and DK / Lem and now seeking to grow in Porto.

Responsibilities

  • Lead assignments in the development of features and technologies for wind turbine blades
  • Ensure designs that are structurally efficient yet still manufacture-able, with particular focus on detailed design and tolerancing.
  • Structural concepts and idea generation
  • Nurture, develop and apply future technologies to wind turbine blades
  • Performing analytical and FEA based calculations, considering both extreme and fatigue strength, and relating to testing results
  • Performing analytical and FEA based process simulation to support factory operations
  • Documentation and certification work
  • Test specifications and validation reports
  • Use of FMEAs and other tools to ensure robust and efficient design and verifications
  • Development of analysis tools and calculations methods
  • Qualifications

  • Solid theoretical knowledge in structural engineering of complex and highly loaded composite structures, at Degree level, ideally MSc or MEng
  • Hands on experience in design of composite structures, preferably large scale ones
  • Experience of structural analysis of composite materials at full structure and detail levels
  • Experience in validation of analysis results against other sources, such as test
  • Experience in the specification or development of analysis tools and methods
  • Strong cooperative and accountability mindset
  • Further, it would be desirable if you have :
  • Experience with ANSYS, Hypermesh and ProE
  • Understanding of programming, preferably Python, and high performance computing
  • Exposure to 6-Sigma and DFSS methodologies, or equivalent
  • Competencies

  • Advanced level in English both in speech and in writing
  • Team player that is able to lead and present their opinions
  • Enthusiastic and engaged, willing to go the extra mile
  • Good communication with Operators & Engineers.
