DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION
Within the framework of our Projects in the AMEC region, we are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our AMEC Engineering Department, in Lisbon office, Portugal.
The role involves working on studies, tenders and projects in a variety of EPCI and / or Transport & Installation Contracts.
You will be responsible for working with conceptual and detailed design of several types of Geotechnical Structures as well as perform Geotechnical studies and analysis.
The person will need to understand Client’s needs, identify and address design parameters and develop and implement possible solutions.
The work will be under the guidance and supervision of an experienced Team Lead.
All personnel are expected to contribute to creating a positive HSEQ culture within Subsea 7 and ensure familiarity with and adherence to local HSEQ codes and practices.
SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Participate in the team providing geotechnical engineering on tenders and projects for the Oil & Gas and Renewable markets.
Evaluate the quality of available site investigations on tenders and projects and be capable of specifying and supervising complementary site investigations as required.
Interpret and use offshore site investigation data and be able to integrate results into detailed design of subsea infrastructure.
Undertake detailed design and installation of gravity base, driven & suction piled subsea structures, jack-up rigs and evaluate / recommend pipe-lay initiation anchors.
Familiarity with offshore design codes of practice.
Use of limit analysis for estimation of collapse load for foundations subject to complex loading.
Use of 2D and 3D finite element software for analysis and design of complex soil-structure interaction problems
Carry out soil / pipe interaction analyses, and support pipeline engineering and associated tasks such as installation analyses, stability analyses, buckling and walking assessment.
Understand the nature of the various geohazards affecting a site and evaluate their impact on the construction.
Understand general geotechnical issues and evaluate any associated financial / safety / quality implications to Subsea 7.
Take part of offshore assignments, such as the supervision of offshore site investigations, foundation installation, and pipeline trenching works as required.
Contribute to Innovation and Technology Development related to soil / pipe and soil / structure interactions. Contribute to internal R & D activities relating to soil / structure and / or pipeline interaction.
The selected candidate will report to the Team Lead and be part of a successful multi-cultural team.

PROFILE :
Master’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering with specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering.
Up to 5 years (graduates are welcome to apply) of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering.
Experience on specification and supervision of offshore site investigations.
Experience on the design of foundations types including driven piles, monopiles, spud-cans, suctions caissons and gravity bases.
Experience on pipeline routing studies and near-mudline geotechnical characterisation studies would be beneficial.
It is essential that candidates have experience with foundation design to API, DNV & ISO standards.
Experience with Visual Basic for Applications or Python programming is desirable, but not essential.
Experience with FEA for Geotechnical Analysis using Plaxis and Abaqus is a plus, but not essential.
Produces work of presentable quality.

Majority of the work is carried out Subsea 7 Lisbon Office,
Requirement for some international travel,
Offshore / Off-site location during project execution phases as required.
