Within the Grid Software Delivery organisation, the Solution Design team is charged to ensure best in class technical design to meet customer functional and non-functional requirements, project budget and timescale.
In the Solution Design team, the Solution Architect for Mobile Solutions will create cost-effective and secure mission-critical solution designs that deliver targeted customer outcomes based on a range of GE software products and technologies.
The Solution Architect will drive, validate, and audit the design of the solution during the different phases of the execution of a project.
These phases begin from the tendering stage and continue till the system acceptance in the customer site.
The successful candidate will have a passion for effective solution design, and be able to help utilities devise effective strategies for deploying mobile solutions to their workforces in a cyber-secure manner.
The role is based in Europe, working with utilities across Europe, Africa and sometimes globally.
Maintain an in-depth understanding of the capabilities of GE's Mobile Enterprise software for utility solutions. Build technical expertise in the domain, with objective to be a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders.
Lead the architecture and design of technical solutions for customers :
Own the design deliverables for assigned area of work (Statement of Work, Architecture documents).
Contribute to technical analysis activities, such as requirements gathering and product gap analysis of user requirements.
Ensure traceability of requirements with solutions proposed
Communicate and explain the design to the customer and key project stakeholders.
Ensure that proposed architectures and designs are according to best practices and are optimal. Effectively leverage product capability, driving standardization, limiting customization, and maximizing reuse of content developed for previous solutions
Coordinate involvement of other SMEs (e.g. business analysts, IT / Cybersecurity experts) and make sure their design contributions meet system architecture functional and non-functional requirements
Drive and translate business requirements into technical deliverables
Analyses and design required interfaces (SCADA, application services, etc.)
Liaison with the Product Management and Development teams to help build best practices in the domain. Follow technical review processes and provide insights for product enhancements
Drive excellence in execution through continuous improvement & Lean mindset (best practices and reference material - reference architectures, reference solutions)
Participate and lead technical workshops internal and external as required
Participating for knowledge capitalization and dissemination across the solution design team
Support tendering team during customer interactions
Deliver technical consultancy services on demand;
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, telecommunications or similar
At least 5 years’ experience in a software delivery organization, with operation (project delivery) background in solution architecture and system design, integration, and consulting, including work experience on delivering digital / mobile solutions for utilities / field service management workforces.
Native / Fluent English speaker & another major European language a plus
Minimum of 5 years related work experience architecting and implementing 24X7 mission critical software applications, involving mobile client, relational databases and data synchronization processes
Strong understanding of technologies and trends in the design and operation of distributed-computing and distributed-data systems, especially on meeting performance, scalability, and security (IT / Infrastructure, Cloud / On prem solutions, Cybersecurity / Reliability, containerization technologies (Docker / Kubernetes), Microservices, etc.. )
Understanding of enterprise architecture patterns, especially on meeting performance, scalability, and security. Working knowledge of designing scalable and highly distributed solutions, as well as cloud and containerization technologies, like Kubernetes, OpenShift, OpenStack, DockerSwarm, Cloud Foundry, AWS, Azure, etc.
Experience with digital solution concepts such as cybersecurity, SW virtualization, connectivity protocols, application design, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Knowledge & experience in microservices architecture and web services (SOAP, REST)
Exposure to iterative product development and program management techniques including Agile, Scrum, and use of a CI / CD development pipeline
Familiarity with iOS and Android mobile platforms and tools (architecture level)
Understanding of mobile app deployment technologies and methodologies
Cyber Security knowledge (principles, 3rd party products, security standards, typical requirements, etc.)

Experience working on software projects in the Energy domain (Energy Management, Oil & Gas, Power & Water) is a plus
Experience with GE Digital Grid ADMS software or Yambay mobile solutions for field service management is a plus
Familiarity with Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity guidance and standards including NERC / CIP, NIS, ISO 27001
Understanding of utility businesses and utility field work practices
Familiar with Lean
