As a jobholder, you will be mainly entrusted with tasks relating to IT technical support for the department. One quarter of the working time will be dedicated to the support of the IT infrastructure of the Didactics of Physics Working Group (WG).

The Department 1 has a total of about 1500 students, 400 staff members and about 30 professors, distributed relatively equally between physics and electrical engineering.

The special challenge of the advertised position lies in the reliable provision of central infrastructure for a large and heterogeneous user group, which will be ensured by you, in cooperation with colleagues.

Your tasks :

  • IT - Technical / Technical support of the FB 1 administration and the AG Didaktik der Physik, ensuring data security and mobile office solutions.
  • Ensuring general data security (firewalls, virus protection, abuse defense, VPN) through independent monitoring and further development.
  • Concept development, construction and maintenance of the network infrastructure, mainly consisting of Cisco components.
  • IT infrastructure monitoring
  • Independent planning, installation and maintenance of the computer network for the house network and for the laboratory of the AG Didaktik der Physik, as well as coordination of the operation of subnetworks.
  • The job profile also includes installation of lines and access points.

  • Independent and autonomous coordination with the technicians of the working groups of physics and electrical engineering in terms of interface activities on the house network.
  • Incorporation of old and new HPC server technologies into the green IT housing center.
  • Technical initiation and processing of procurements.
  • Maintenance of the websites of the Department 1 and the WG Didactics of Physics.
  • Some tasks are performed in close cooperation with the Department 5 of the University of Bremen - IT, Media Technical Infrastructure and Central Services.

    Requirements :

  • Successfully completed university studies (bachelor's degree, diploma) in computer science or comparable or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive knowledge of the operating systems Microsoft Windows, Linux, BSD and Mac OS.
  • Good knowledge or willingness to familiarize yourself with :
  • CISCO IOS
  • POSTFIX, DOVECOT, AMAVIS, SPAMASSASSIN
  • BASH-SCRIPT, PYTHON, PERL, PHP, MYSQL
  • Kernel based firewall rules IPTABLES and pfSense firewall systems / BSD packet filters.
  • Proficiency in working on live conduits and cable ducts and installing conduits and access points in false ceilings and on walls and installing cable ducts.
  • Good knowledge of English (min. B1)
  • Independent working style, ability to work in a team as well as communication skills and flexibility
  • The willingness to take over safety-related activities is required.

  • Basic knowledge in independent development, programming and construction of electronic circuits.
