Job Summary :

The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, modifying and evaluating components and methods used to monitor and control systems, machinery and processes

Technical Execution

  • Interacts with users to define system requirements and / or necessary modification
  • Develops Scope Of Works for control system maintenance and replacement projects
  • Performs or supervises complex maintenance and repair tasks on the BMS / Controls
  • Organises, supervises and approves the work performed by external contractors
  • Performs regular technical checks and diagnoses on the systems, takes precautionary measures, carries out urgent corrective operations, involves the competent providers where appropriate
  • Defines, organizes, maintains the proper inventory of critical spare parts
  • Supports and problem solves BMS / Controls non routine issues
  • Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems
  • Documents any material that helps the country team to better use their BMS / Controls on a daily basis and react to incidents
  • Works with the local teams to implement any improvement plan arising from the findings of audits or in reaction to incidents involving the BMS / Controls
  • Expert level communication to include cross functional Standard Operating Procedures development and relevant technical writing
  • Project Management

    Acts as the country / sub-regional subject matter expert for BMS / Controls related projects

  • Determines design approaches and parameters, in compliance with Equinix GDS, local R&R, best practices
  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data
  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
  • Writes / develops controls systems code consistent with global standards and / or steers suppliers to achieve the same results
  • Tests suitability of components / codes for deployments
  • Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
  • Development

  • Train other site staff on BMS / Controls systems
  • Help the country organizations on their control engineering insourcing journey
  • Develop technical skill sets through continuous learning / training
  • Keep oneself up to speed with the Equinix BMS / Controls standards / best practices
  • Knowledge and experience

  • Technical education (Diploma of Higher Education, BSC Degree) in automated systems and / or industrial computing
  • Proven experience in this type of role, ideally in a similarly mission critical environment
  • Knowledge of industrial programmable logic controllers (Schneider TSX, Allen-Bradley, Wago, etc.)
  • Knowledge of WonderWare, Trend, Schneider Getex, and PcVue development and monitoring tools
  • All-round technological skills

  • Ability to communicate easily with third parties and internal customers
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, allowing smooth communication with all internal and external stakeholders
