Aerodynamic Design and Performance Engineer
We are looking for a very proactive and enthusiastic aerodynamic expert to work inside the Blade Module organization in SGRE Onshore Technology Directorate.
You should have a broad experience and background in wind turbine aerodynamics. Your location would be onshore technology offices in Madrid, Spain with alternative location in Pamplona (Spain) and Vagos (Portugal).
Your mission would be mainly focused in aerodynamics for NPD (New Product Development) projects : developing, simulating and validating aerodynamic technical solutions;
integrating them in the rotor design; developing process, methodology, and models for wind turbine and wind farms aerodynamic analysis and simulation, etc.
All focused to feed SGRE ON products and so contribute to their competitiveness. You will join a very qualified team of aerodynamic engineers, and work very closely to other disciplines as loads, control, blade structure, etc.
that will provide you with a broad view of technical aspects around wind turbines design business.
What are your responsibilities
Mainly focused towards NPD, but with involvement into TD (Technology Development) processes when necessary :
Develop aerodynamic focused technical solutions and data, validating them and deploying to Products.
Based on this aspect,
Perform the aerodynamic design of the rotor of the wind turbine (airfoild, blade, addons, rotor aerodynamic integration)
Perform numerical simulations to evaluate aerodynamic design in sufficient detail
Create the external surface (3D) of the blade in CAD format, with the required quality and taking into account the structural and manufacturing restrictions specified
Define the test requirements and acceptance criteria for aerodynamic design validation. Analysis and interpretation of test results.
Collaborate in the definition of the requirements of the blade, specifying the nominal values and the tolerances of the geometric parameters related to the aerodynamic performance.
Calculate wind turbine performances for required wind conditions
Define the laws of pitch and rotor speed, from a static point of view, according to power criteria, aerodynamic loads, etc.
What you need to make a difference
Passion for renewable energy and a sense for the importance to lead the change. We are also looking for
You hold a MSc or PhD within Aeronautics / Aerospace Engineering or similar, preferably with specialization in Aerodynamics / Fluid dynamics, and have a minimum of five years of experience in aerodynamics of wind turbines or another relevant industry
Solid theoretical background in wind turbine aerodynamics and performances
Proven experience with aerodynamics related models and tools, as BEM, CFD (preferably OpenFOAM), Xfoil, etc., capabilities and limitations
Excellent analytical skills and understanding of aerodynamic design principles
Experience with technology development and innovation
You are pro-active coming up with new ideas for improving aerodynamic technology (solutions, process, models, tools, etc.)
Good interpersonal skills, result-oriented and flexible
Solid language skills in English (written and spoken)
Following skills would be a plus :
Knowledge of aero-elasticity / loads and control
Experience with Python, MATLAB, Fortran, etc.
Experience in leading technology projects
