Pension Data Specialist - Actuary (Insurance)1900030N The Role Established in 2008 to support Willis Towers Watson’s actuarial consulting operations, the Lisbon Service Centre (LSC) employs more than 110 skilled graduates in Portugal in 2019.
As of 2018 the LSC supports WTW’s actuarial and data-risk consulting operations in the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain.
As a fast growing team, we want experienced SQL developers (preferably with actuarial or pensions background) to join us as Pensions Data Specialists.
The LSC differentiates from other hubs by partnering with consulting teams across Europe to deliver client value through technical expertise, innovation and streamlined solutions.
As an added-value hub, the LSC employs skilled graduates in actuarial science, engineering, mathematics, economics and management.

Responsibilities The candidate will play an essential role within Data Solutions developing SQL databases and writing applications to interface with SQL databases :
Lead the technical delivery of various data projects to our internal clients, including data audits, data cleanse and construction,
Work in technical projects and take responsibility for successful delivery of the work and work closely with other members in a diverse project team
Developing processes that support database related actions, as well as procedures and scripts for data migration
Research required data
Build appropriate and useful reporting deliverables; provide timely scheduled management reporting
Analyse existing SQL queries for performance improvements and suggest new queries
Support test teams by investigating and resolving reported program bugs
Provide guidance and oversight to minimize technical and business risk arising from technology and technical solutions
Communicate technical issues in a clear way to a broad audience, including to internal clients
Mentoring and guiding other team members who are trained to foundation or intermediate level in SQL skills. Support the development of a structured maintenance program of SQL and database skills within the business.
Contribute to the growth of the business by suggesting improvements and efficiencies to processes. Identify areas where technology can be used to minimise risk, minimise impact on resources and maximise profitability
Be an advocate for excellence and help consolidate a culture of continuous improvement
Be a main point of contact for internal clients
Work in close partnership with management to ensure issues are identified in timely manner and solutions are actioned promptly
The Requirements We are looking for a highly-driven individual, with a proven track record of SQL and database development, who is looking to become part of a large and dynamic work environment.
The essential experience for this role is :
Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics or equivalent quantitative / statistical fields
Actuarial qualifications (is a plus)
Excellent understanding of T-SQL programming; Able to develop, implement and optimize stored procedures and functions using T-SQL
Proven experience as a SQL Developer or similar role with experience of SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services
Capable of configuring popular database engines and orchestrating clusters as necessary
Capable of troubleshooting common database issues
Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
Clear, concise and confident communicator of complex or technical issues related to data matters to a broad audience, both verbally and in writing
A firm commitment to delivering high quality service
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a large team and capacity to work in a fast-paced environment
Capacity and desire to coach and upskill more junior members of the team
Well organised and detail oriented with ability to prioritise conflicting work schedules or escalate to senior management as required
Inquisitive, self-starter attitude and ability to work with ambiguity and proactivity in searching for new solutions in the face of challenging problems
