Application Development Lead, Network On Demand
Role summary :
This person is to lead the 7-8 developers in an Agile / Kanban model who build, manage, and support 2 award winning B2B customer-facing Network On Demand applications.
The candidate will have experience of leading a small development team with a desire to move towards becoming an architect.
The team is small and nimble, and as a result has made amazing progress in the industry. The primary focus will be to ensure that our applications are meeting business requirements whilst remaining extensible, maintainable, and efficient.
Sometimes this means we have to go and re-engineer some parts too which needs to be directed.
We work in a business with lots of other applications, so interaction with our peers is key to ensure any integrations are effective and robust.
Sometimes we also have to test the water with new stuff, and so there will be a need to develop spikes / proof-of-concepts to evaluate tools and approaches to ensure the evolution of the platform makes best use of new technologies and techniques.
Understand and elaborate business requirements working with product managers, product owners, technical specialists and business analysts.
Understand platform capabilities across our IT and Network estate to understand how requirements will be realized
Discussing technical solutions with clients and colleagues to help provide innovative new ideas to solutions
Providing timing estimates on work.
Contributing to documentation (technical and non-technical)
Working with project managers to plan deliveries, and manage issues and risks
Work with development teams to address queries during build
Liaise with testing teams in triaging, assigning, and tracking defects
Create architecture, functional and non-functional designs
Development task decomposition and assignment
Task prioritization across the customer applications
Release planning & coordination
DevOps and release management
Improving the way the team works to increase quality and productivity
Mentoring junior and senior developers
Professional experience :
Experience of working in Telecommunications sector
Experience of working in delivery projects in waterfall and agile methodologies
Experience of the full software development lifecycle.
Experience of defining REST APIs using OpenAPI Specification
Experience of a wide range of tools and programming languages, but especially Java (with Spring Boot), Node.js, SQL databases, and ideally implementing microservices on Docker / Kubernetes
Experience of working in a mixed onshore / offshore environment involving offshore development and test teams
Good understanding with process automation and systems integration
Good understanding of architecture and design patterns for software design.
Excellent communication in English
Nice to have (with a thirst to learn on the role) :
Specific knowledge of other tools and technologies such (but not limited to) : Sonar, Jenkins, Trello, SOAP UI, Postman, JBPM, Reverse proxies, Load balancing, NoSQL Databases, RabbitMQ, WebSockets, Elasticsearch, SAML
Familiarity with network technologies such as Carrier Ethernet, IP, SD WAN, NFV, and uCPE
Familiarity with network automation concepts
High level understanding of virtualization and containerization technologies.
High level understanding of cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, and Google Cloud (GCP).
