The Consuelo Vieira da Costa Foundation is a non-profit private law institution, which aims to carry out activities to promote, develop and support initiatives of a predominantly social, cultural and scientific research nature in the fields of teaching, education and vocational training.

Within the framework of its Research Centre in Business Sciences and Tourism (CICET - FCVC), it hereby announces that applications are being accepted for the position of research officer.

CICET - FCVC is a recent Research Center that aims to promote applied research activities in the areas of Business Sciences, Management, Economics, Tourism, Marketing, Accounting and transversal areas, with impact at the level of local, regional and national policies in close relationship with the business fabric of the North of the country.

Activities to be performed :

Management of 3 research projects :

Project 1 : Accessible Tourist Destinations - Porto & Vila Nova de Gaia".

  • To evaluate the degree of accessibility of tourism products in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia;
  • To establish the relationship between the level of accessibility and revenue potential;
  • Estimate the potential market value of Porto and Gaia as fully accessible for all tourist destinations;
  • Formulate strategies to promote the development of accessibility for local stakeholders, considering cost and efficiency.
  • Formulate research questions;
  • Coordinate literature reviews, data collection, data analysis and paper production considering the objectives of this line.
  • To coordinate the team in the deepening and dissemination of scientific knowledge about the demand for tourism products and for Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia as tourism destinations
  • To characterize tourists considering their level of access requirements;
  • Establish the relationship between access requirements and the level of accessibility of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia as tourism products
  • To analyse the consumption patterns and interests of people with disabilities and the demand requirements of associations;
  • To evaluate the tourist perception of accessibility levels in Porto and Gaia;
  • To estimate the potential market size (considering tourist accessibility requirements) for accessibility for destinations in Porto and Gaia;
  • To weigh the impacts (tourist, economic and social) of accessible Porto and Gaia for all tourism.
  • To coordinate the application of quantitative methods (through primary and secondary data collection and analysis, in which the team has substantial experience) and qualitative methods in order to produce high quality research papers that will lead to the above objectives.
  • Evaluating the development of new tourism products : proposing a model for the development of tourism destinations, in terms of levels of accessibility;
  • fostering the creation of new tourism products, with emphasis on the development of accessibility.

  • Production of scientific results (publication of research papers in indexed and peer-reviewed journals and participation in scientific debates, through participation in scientific conferences and workshops).
  • Project 2 : "The Touristic, Economic and Social Dimension of the Ways of St. James after Covid-19

  • Develop a questionnaire to be applied to tourists / pilgrims on the paths;
  • To collect primary data on pilgrims on each of the Portuguese routes (Central Way; Coastal Way; Inner Way);
  • To characterise the sociodemographic profile of pilgrims;
  • To analyse the underlying motivations of pilgrims;
  • To assess the choices and underlying levels of satisfaction;
  • Establishing the main attractions of each path;
  • Comparing the attractiveness potential of the route and profile / motivations of the visitors;
  • Assess the importance of the religious dimension to the success of the route.
  • To evaluate consumption patterns and estimate the economic impact of the Portuguese route.
  • To build a data set with secondary data on religious tourism indicators and primary data collected in the first research phase (international arrivals, number of tourism-related businesses along the paths;
  • business income; tourist expenditure, etc.);
  • Analysis of the relationship between pilgrimage and tourist expenditure on the routes;
  • To evaluate the added value generated by pilgrimages on the Portuguese route.
  • To coordinate the production of scientific outputs (articles, books / chapters and conference papers) focusing on the economic impact of the Portuguese route and the economic potential of religious tourism and the production of a technical report with policy
  • To estimate the possible reduction in demand (pilgrims) and supply (companies, jobs) due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • Assess social perception of visitors (possible changes in motivations; satisfaction or fear);
  • Formulate policy recommendations and guidelines to mitigate the expected effects of Covid-19 on the supply and demand side of religious tourism sites.
  • Project 3 : "Sustainability and circular economy models applied to industry".

  • Coordinate contact and engagement with local industries in order to collect reliable and up-to-date information to be used in the preparation of scientific research.
  • Conducting studies of attendees, with previously validated questionnaires, collection of responses in frequented areas, such as downtown and the historic centre of Porto;
  • Use of quantitative methodology to produce scientific results (publication of scientific articles and special issues in peer-reviewed indexed journals, scientific book chapters and active participation in international conferences / workshops for scientific dissemination)
  • In the third phase entitled "Creation of new products

  • Coordinate and produce scientific papers that propose innovative products resulting from the creation of industrial symbiosis systems.
  • In the fourth phase entitled "Dissemination of knowledge" :

  • Coordinate the creation of an annual forum, to discuss and obtain consensus among industry stakeholders (companies, higher education institutions, academic experts, local government) on long-term strategic objectives, where a proposal for an action plan to respond to the problems identified in this project will be drafted.
  • Organisation of conferences, seminars and lectures on circular economy relevant to knowledge transfer.
  • In the fifth phase entitled "Development of a platform and mobile application (app) :

  • In partnership with the municipality of Porto, check the feasibility of having a special scheduling with companies to collect specific and special types of their waste;
  • Coordinate the dissemination, on the platform and app, of all the initiatives to be carried out in the circular economy;
  • Coordinate the team working on the main features of the platform and app (a company will be outsourced to develop the platform and mobile app).
  • Current activities of the Centre :

  • Management, coordination and supervision of the research groups;
  • Management, coordination, supervision and training of CICET - FCVC researchers and their outputs;
  • Collection, analysis and processing of quantitative and qualitative data;
  • Management and production of scientific publications within the scope of the Centre;
  • To continue and increase the research projects of the centre;
  • Elaboration and submission of new applications for funded research projects;
  • Managing and establishing new partnerships to carry out applied research studies;
  • Establishment and development of projects in partnership with enterprises, in order to maximize and promote the application of research;
  • Coordination of the EJABM (European Journal of Applied Business and Management), namely, submission of the Journal for indexing in the most prestigious scientific databases, supervision of articles review (peer review), publication of papers, and special issues, and management of the Calls for Papers;
  • Coordination of scientific events, namely the International Conference on Applied Business and Management (ICABM) and the International Workshop in Tourism and Hospitality Management (IWTHM).
  • Coordination and supervision of applied research projects (in partnership with ISAG - EBS) in various events held in the North of the country that focus on the study of audiences, consumer behaviour, evaluation of the brands sponsoring the event and the economic impact of the event for the location, in events such as :
  • Serralves Foundation - Serralves em Festa! and Serralves Autumn Festival;
  • Essência do Vinho (Essence of Wine);
  • NOS Primavera Sound Festival;
  • Festival Essência - Drinks, Food & Wine.
