Job Summary

The Director of Golf will be reporting to the General Manager and is responsible for managing the golf team to achieve defined sales targets, assist in recruitment and development and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Main Duties

  • Serves as a member of the property Strategic Team.
  • Create, implement, report and analyse the Golf Operations plan including budget and all other golf related financial duties - Coordinate specific objectives of the plan with all of the functional departments of the company.
  • Establish and enforce golf course policies, rules and regulations. Oversee all golf programs and activities including tournaments, junior golf programs, golf clinics, special groups, and instruction and retail promotions.
  • Ensure consistent high standards of customer service across all golf operations including the training and performance management of Team Members.
  • Oversees the Landscaping team, ensuring high quality standards regarding Golf Course.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure two-way communication is maintained.
  • Participates and professionally represents the hotel in industry related professional organizations, trade shows, community events, networking events, and golf sales trips.
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of market trends, competition and customers.
  • Other Duties

  • Actively prospects and solicits new and existing accounts (national and international MARKETS) to meet / exceed revenue goals through telephone solicitation, conducting outside sales calls, online bidding / contracting, site inspections, client entertainment, contracting, RFP responses, and written communication.
  • Targets key relationships with customers directly and through other sources including travel industry, CVB, etc. Meets solicitation and maintenance call requirements.

  • Assists with and completes special projects and assignments as designated by the General Manager.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
  • In addition, attendance at all scheduled training

  • sessions and meetings is required. Work may require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments on occasion.

  • Human Resources

  • Ensure that the hotels are fully compliant with Wyndham people processes and deadlines that govern all Wyndham properties.
  • E.g. AES, Success Matters, Probation reviews etc.

  • Ensure that the administration of the probation review process and ensure that follow-up for all issues is done in timely manner
  • Talent Reviews taken place as per the communicated timeline and are live in the business.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with all mandatory training for departments; as well as the Departmental Trainers are positively encouraged.
  • Control the LTO, Absence and Payroll in your department(s) in conjunction with the HR Leader on property to ensure that any areas of concern and monitored and rectified to meet the HR BSC Targets.
  • Manage the associate engagement survey process in your department(s) to ensure that the follow up meetings are done and the associates have timely feedback.
  • Conduct interviews for relevant roles in conjunction with HR.
  • Review manning and re-recruitment in conjunction with HR.
  • Ensure that you dine in the Associate restaurant at least three times a week and provide HR Leader on property feedback.
  • Support WeCom (Hotel Team Committee) with quarterly People, Community and Sustainability engagement events.
  • Communication

  • To conduct or chair regular communication meetings with team(s) and actively participate in relevant business meetings to facilitate effective communication.
  • Attend ExCom Meetings
  • Attend Business Review Meeting
  • Quarterly Hotel Meeting / Town Hall
  • Skills / Experience / Certificates / Education

  • A recognized business or hospitality management qualification or a graduate degree in a Golf Course discipline
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as functional golf leader within a hotel
  • Experience of managing people / effective leadership
  • Four / Five star internationally managed hotel experience is desired
  • Competency in the use of hotel sales and revenue programmes
  • Highest level of numeracy and literacy
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English is essential
  • A strong sense of commerciality and financial acumen
