PURCHASING MANAGER - PORTO
The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for buying the best quality equipment, goods and services at the most competitive prices to enable the company or organization to operate.
Our client is a medical device manufacturing company so experience and knowledge in this field shall be a benefit, but is not required.
You will be directly involved in the purchasing of :
Through effective negotiation, networking and dealing with numbers, you will help the business or organization to save money and increase profits.
You may also deal with other factors such as sustainability, quality assurance, risk management and ethical issues.
Forecast levels of demand for services and products
Conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers
Request relevant documentation to ensure the quality of the purchased goods
Build and maintain good relationships With New And Existing Suppliers
Negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring the quality of service provided
Keep contract files and use them as reference for the future
Develop strategies to make sure that cost savings and supplier performance targets are met - or exceeded
Undertake value for money reviews of existing contracts and arrangements
Forecast price trends and their impact on future activities
Keep a constant check on stock levels
Give presentations about market analysis and possible growth
Develop a purchasing strategy
Produce reports and statistics on spending and saving
Evaluate Bids and Make Recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
Ensure Suppliers Are Aware Of Business Objectives
Attend Meetings And Trade Conferences
Train and Supervise the work of other members of staff.
As this is a high-profile role in the corporate sector, a smart, business-like appearance is essential.
There is a high level of responsibility, which can be challenging.
Some local, regional and international travel is expected. Long journeys may involve staying away from home for short periods.
You may need to travel abroad to attend trade shows or set up business agreements with new contacts.
Although this area of work is open to all graduates, the following degree subjects may improve your chances : Business studies / Engineering / Management / Marketing / Operations management / Purchasing and logistics / Purchasing and supply / Retail management / Supply chain management.
Previous business experience, especially gained in buying and selling, is important. Relevant work experience, for example as a purchasing assistant or junior buyer, will help you in this job.
You will need to have :
Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills (in English)
Experience in working in an ISO13485 certified environment is desired
Strong analytical ability to adapt to different client needs and to develop and maintain successful working relationships
Numeracy skills in order to analyze facts and figures
The ability to lead and motivate a team
A flair for negotiation and networking
Tact and diplomacy
The ability to make important decisions and cope with the pressure of demanding targets and tight deadlines
